Steven Jack King

Steven Jack King, 72 years old of Marion, Illinois, passed away at home on August 13, 2023.  Steven was born in Yokahama, Japan, on May 11, 1951, the son of Earl and Aletha King.

He was a 1969 graduate of Marion High School.  Steven married Jama O’Hara on August 12, 1983.  They shared 23 years of marriage until Jama’s passing on December 4, 2006.

He worked in road construction for most of his life, but he also had a role in the building of Heartland Regional Medical Center and the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott located on The Hill. He was a member of the Laborer’s Union Local 773.  He attended Southern Range Cowboy Church, “where they were more like a family than a church.”    Steven enjoyed Harley motorcycle riding with his wife.  They rode many miles together with friends. He also always looked forward to Daytona Bike Week in the 80’s and early 90’s. He loved listening to music of the 70’s. He was particularly fond of Todd Snyder and Billy Joe Shaver music. During his most recent years, Steven enjoyed sitting on his deck at the Lake of Egypt and seeing his grandkids.

Steven’s greatest accomplishment was being a dad to Quinton (Fiancé Maddison Byrn) and “Pops” to Jace Byrn and Maizleigh King.  When his son was younger, they spent a lot of time attending concerts, going to the beach and current river and riding motorcycles together.

 He is survived by his son Quinton (Fiancé Maddison Byrn); his grandkids Jace and Maizleigh; his brothers Mike King of Marion and Earl King of Bluford; his cousins Roger (Pam) King, Dave (Joyce) King, along with other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jama; his stepdaughter Sara Phillips; and his brothers Bryan and Sam King.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home has been entrusted to assist the family with arrangements.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home located at 1702 West Boulevard Street in Marion. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jason Forby officiating.
