Stephen Dale Murphy

Stephen Dale Murphy, age 62, of Marion, Illinois, formerly of Carrier Mills, Illinois passed away at approximately 4:52 pm on Friday, June 10, 2022, at St. Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, MO.  He graduated from Carrier Mills High School and lived in Carrier Mills for many years before relocating to Marion.

He was born on December 7, 1960, the son of Loren Dale and Helen Gurley Murphy.

He is survived by a brother, Glen Alan Murphy of Harrisburg, an uncle, Charles A. Murphy and 3 aunts Wanda Murphy Marsh, Lula Belle Murphy Rice, and Marjorie Gurley Whiting and a host of nieces, nephew, and cousins.  He is also survived by a very special friend Jennifer Hoyle, her family and little Aerica Jane and another special friend, Scott Pearce, who was like a brother to him. He shared many good times with Scott at his family gatherings.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Lorna Jean Murphy. 

Steve was a kind, considerate, caring person who always put others first. 

Steve loved history, was a John Wayne fan, and a collector of many books and tapes. He was a great writer of poetry for birthdays, holidays or just to cheer you up or to help you forget your troubles and bring joy in your life. Steve will surely be missed by all who knew him.

He was a 30-year employee of Toyota in Marion, as a lot manager. 

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm and funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home in Marion with Pastor Bradley Dexter officiating.  Burial will follow at Trammell Cemetery in Stonefort.

The family has requested that memorial donations be directed to the funeral home to assist with funeral expenses.
