Robert "Bob" McNail Obituary

Robert Noel McNail went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, September 2, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Bob was born in Crab Orchard, Illinois on September 13, 1931, to Estess and Echo Angel McNail Springs.  When he was six years old his father was killed in the family-owned Green Valley Coal Mine.  The family then moved in with his paternal grandparents where they continued to be raised in a loving Christian home.
Bob accepted Christ at Coal Bank Springs Baptist Church during a revival when he was 11.  He was baptized soon after in a neighbor’s lake.
Bob married Alice Janette (Sue) Groves in Marion, Illinois on September 22, 1951.  Their first daughter, Vicki, was born while Bob was serving our country overseas.  They were then blessed with their second daughter, Kim, five years later.
One of Bob’s greatest joys was his family and friends. Some of his favorite memories were of all four of his grandchildren staying with them for a few weeks during the summer.   He spent much of his adult years praising the Lord in song by singing bass in the Messengers Quartet.   He loved farming.   It was a normal occurrence after working a night shift at the mine to find him out in the field on the tractor checking his cattle, baling hay, or mending fences.
After the death of Sue’s mother, Bob was instrumental in helping raise Sue’s younger brothers Johnny, Charles, Carl and Jack Groves and sister, Cheri Ramsey.  He was dearly loved and deeply respected by each of them.
Bob was a member of the Illinois National Guard which was activated in February of 1951 during the Korean War.  He was stationed in Schweinfurt, Germany as a heavy equipment operator assigned to the motor pool.  After returning to the United States, he returned to work for the Amax Coal Company at the Delta strip mine where he operated the second largest dragline in the world.  He retired from Amax Coal in August of 1994.
Bob was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sue, his wife of 66 years, his parents, his sister Betty Musgrave, and his stepfather John Springs.  He is survived by his daughters Vicki Jaco and husband Clay and Kim Doron and husband David of Longview, Texas.  His brother Donald McNail and wife Mary of Marion, Illinois. His grandchildren Matthew Jaco (Kelley) of Decatur, Texas; Todd Jaco (Megan) of Rapid City, South Dakota; Anthony Doron (Amy) and Akita Cano (Weismann) of Longview, Texas.  He was blessed with five great grandchildren: Garret, Seann, Jesse, Hazle, and Myra.  He was loved by numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
In Texas a memorial will be held in Mr. McNail’s honor at Mason Creek Baptist Church located at 14206 FM 968 West, Longview, Texas on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 6:30 P.M.
In Illinois funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 10, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at Binkley-Ross Funeral Home in Marion, Illinois with Pastor David Ramsey officiating. Interment will follow the service in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery in Marion with Matthew Jaco, Clay Jaco, Todd Jaco, Garrett Jaco, Anthony Doron, David Doron, Weismann Cano and Greg Groves serving as Pa-bearers.
