Megan Green Obituary

Megan Jennifer (Mercer) Green, 52 of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.  Megan was born on March 22, 1970, in Aberdeen, Maryland. She is the daughter of Patricia (Steiner) Mitchell and John Mercer.

Megan attended Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis, Missouri and later attended one year at the University of Missouri and an additional year at St. Louis Community College. She earned her certificate as a teacher’s aide.  She worked in the food service industry for many years and has delivered pizzas for over 30 years, most recently working at Papa John's Pizza in Marion.

Megan had two children, Cathlene and Zak Green.  She loved her kids.  They share memories of traveling to the beach with her and putting their feet under the sand in the ocean and letting the waves drift them away.  Megan was not fond of any sea creatures, and they loved to play tricks on her with jellyfish and oysters. She would put her kids wants and needs ahead of her own, even during difficult times. Megan loved to play Pokémon Go in her free time and she cared for her many plants and loved animals, even though she was allergic to most of them.  She had a special cat for 16 years named Katie Jane. Her favorite color was blue, although she wouldn’t eat or drink anything blue unless it was a blue M & M.  She was always kind to others and had a big heart when it came to Locks of Love and would often grow her hair long just so she could donate it to children in need. She enjoyed watching beautiful sunrises and sunsets.  She was also known for always “taking the blame” for any mischief her twin brothers would get into as they were growing up.

Megan is survived by her two children, Cathlene and Zak; her mother, Patricia Mitchell; her father, John Mercer, her two brothers, Joshua and Ethan Mitchell; her sisters, Charlie Kate and Lindsay Mercer; and her lifelong best friend, Christine Wheeler; along with other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard Mitchell; her grandmother, Cathlene Steiner; and her uncle Bob Steiner.

The family has entrusted Binkley-Ross Funeral Home with arrangements.

In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial donations be directed to a no kill animal rescue of the donor’s choice in memory of Megan.
