John Edward Shoot

With sadness we announce John Edward Shoot, 68, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully with family at his side at Herrin Hospital on Sunday February 12, 2023.

 John is survived by his wife, Renee; daughter, Lerin (Jacob) Banas; son, Ty (Amanda) Shoot; and three grandchildren, Emerson Banas, Emmett and Carter Shoot; as well as two sisters, Susie (Bob) Dickinson and Pam (Gary) Mabry; and brother, Chuck (Diana) Shoot.  Additionally, nephews, Trevor (Karen) Crabtree, Traves (Felicia) Crabtree, Matt (Grace) Shoot, Brian (Steph) Mabry; and nieces, Tracie (Tray) Burch and Lindsay (Seth) Coe; as well as many other extended family and close friends.

  John and Renee shared 45 years of marriage together. After graduating Marion High School in 1975 he started his career with Holmes Construction.  He then worked for Jim Shotton Construction Co. before going into business for himself. John worked as a contractor building homes in the Marion area as John Shoot Builders, for 34 years, with the help of his son, Ty, towards the end of his career. He enjoyed baseball, time outside, and his grandchildren. 

John was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lois Shoot; parents-in-law, Ray and Jane Gibbons; brother, Tom Shoot; brothers-in-law, Charlie Schafale and Kenny Crabtree; and sister-in-law Gayla Crabtree; as well as niece, Christie Schafale. 

Care has been entrusted to Binkley-Ross Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on Monday, February 20, 2023, from 5-8 pm at the American Legion located at 11720 Longstreet Road, Marion, IL.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to P.A.W.S. (Pets Are Worth Saving), 52 Dog Walk Road Anna, Illinois 62906 or envelopes will be available during the service.
