Bobby Carl Goodwin

August 18, 1934 ~ December 4, 2021 (age 87)

Bobby Carl Goodwin, 87, died December 4 at his home on Lake of Egypt in southern Illinois.

Bob was born at his parents' home in Bay Village, Arkansas, on August 18, 1934. The son of Floyd Thomas Goodwin and Edath Earl Penna Goodwin. He grew up on Crowley's Ridge with his four brothers and three sisters. He moved to Chicago, where he worked for the Sunbeam Corporation and later other companies, driving big rigs through Chicago traffic until his retirement.

Bobby was a terror to the walleyes of Lake Michigan, where he spent many happy days wading into the cold water and casting his line. A lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs, his extended family is grateful that he got to see - from the comfort of his recliner - the long-suffering Cubbies take home a World Series title.

Bob retired to Lake of Egypt, where his deck overlooked the sparkling waters of the lake on which he would often take his pontoon or bass boat to fish for smaller prey than in Chicago, but with every bit as much pleasure. In the Hunt's Resort community, he made many dear friends who helped make his final years some of the happiest of his life.

Bob was a good man of quiet faith and had a sly, dry sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye.

He was utterly devoted to his children and grandchildren, who will miss him tremendously.

Bob is survived by his daughters Kimberly Nicole Christ (Mark) and Rena Randell Goodwin, his sisters Carolyn Ann Pope and Betty Francis Brown (Reese), and his grandchildren Emily Ann and Cassandra Lee Christ and Abigail Augusta and Ian Kirkpatrick Lee, along with nieces and nephews extending into several generations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Bryan Carl Goodwin, his brothers Thomas Eugene, Larry Wayne, Jimmy Ray and Jerry Gail Goodwin, his sister Edith Viola Bata, and his former wife and mother of his children Dorothy Lee Wright Goodwin.

Funeral arrangements are pending, but burial will be in Bay Village Cemetery, where he will rest beside his son among the lovely hills where he and his siblings played as children. Memorials may be made to the cause of your choice.

Binkley-Ross Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements under the direction of Joni Binkley-Ross. You may leave your condolences on the website.
