Wendell E. Kent

WENDELL E. KENT, age 83, of Marion, passed away at 11:30am on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. Wendell was born on June 11, 1925 in Marion to Ralph & Leona (Stanley) Kent. He married Mary Ola King on May 27, 1950 at the Marion First Baptist Church. She survives of Marion. Mr. Kent was a veteran of the United States Air Force during WWII. He retired in 1990 from the Marion Daily Republican Newspaper after working forty years as the commercial printer. He was a member of Marion First Baptist, the International Typographical Union and Marion VFW Post #1301. In the 1960s Wendell was a bowler. He loved Marion sports and traveling to Legion baseball games. Survivors include- Son & daughter in law- Stanley E. & Kathy Kent of Goreville Son & daughter in law- Howard D. & Tammy Kent of Marion Daughter & son in law- Brenda L. & Robert Zeboski of Marion Five grandchildren: Ronda R. Craft & husband Allen of Carterville Benji A. Kent & wife Diana of Marion Matthew H. Kent of Marion Lori R. Kent of Goreville Christopher R. Kent of Owensboro, KY Six Great Grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion, with Rev. Jim Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery with military rites presented by Marions VFW Post #1301, American Legion Post #147 and National Guard Unit. Visitation will be held from 5-8pm on Monday, July 21, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to the Marion Athletic Department or the Alzheimers Association.
