Marion Wanda Jean Hill Smiley Burtt, 78 passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Herrin Hospital. It was Wanda’s wishes that her earthly body be cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at her home in Marion, 703 North McClaren Avenue, on Saturday, May 12, 2012 from Noon – 4:00 PM; friends and family are encouraged to attend. She was born to Robert Louis and Stella Mae (Meadows) Hill on March 21, 1934 in Marion. Wanda Jean married Orville Raymond Smiley in 1950; they shared 21 years of marriage. She later married David B. Burtt who passed away October 25, 2008. She is survived by her children, Mike & Sandi Smiley, Patrick Smiley, Mary Lynn (Smiley) & Mike Gilbreath; sisters, Shirley Schulte, Mary and Sonny Davis; brother Don and Carol Hill. Wanda was blessed with 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her parents; son Robert Smiley and 3 brothers & 3 sisters. Wanda started her career as a Licensed Beautician in Marion before relocating to Southern California. She was the nutritionist and food service supervisor at Rockwell International, and retired from Northrup Grumman Aerospace. She opened Legacy House Retirement center in South Jordan, Utah before returning to Marion where she worked as nutritionist and food service supervisor at Parkway Manor and Prairie Living at Chautauqua in Carbondale. She enjoyed working in her gardens, her flowers and her home. Having family and friends together brought her joy. Laughter was her greatest gift to us all. She was a true patriot and supported veterans of all conflicts. She will be remembered as a Loving Mother, Grandmother, Daughter, Sister and Friend.
