Virginia 'Ginny' Elizabeth Peters

Virginia Elizabeth “Ginny” Peters was born on July 7, 1967, in Moberly, Missouri, and passed away on January 25, 2026, in Goreville, Illinois. She was the daughter of James “Breck” Thompson and Linda Sue Thompson. Ginny married Jeff Peters of Mattoon, Illinois, and together they had four children. She deeply loved her children and grandchildren.

Ginny was a compassionate, caring, and loving person. She watched out for her elderly neighbors and helped many of them. After moving to Southern Illinois, she volunteered with the United Way of Southern Illinois. She took over coordination of UWSI’s Summer Reading & Activity Program and was a tremendous help with the Christmas Holiday Helping Hands Program. She will be sadly missed.

Ginny is survived by her mother, Linda DuHamel of Goreville, Illinois; her son, Jason Peters of Mattoon, Illinois; her daughter, Emily and Dustin Ethington of Trilla, Illinois; her daughter, Abbi and Justin Finley of Mattoon, Illinois; and her grandchildren: Ethan Vice, Bella Vice, Aubrey VanScyoc, Julia Ethington, Dusty Ethington, Kathryn Finley, Thomas Finley, Dallas Finley, Lance Peters, and Eli Peters. She is also survived by her two beloved support animals, Jax and Josie.

Preceding her in death was her father, James B. Thompson; her brother, James L. Thompson; her son, Mason Peters; and her grandson, Jasper Finley.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Private services will be held at Blue Funeral Home in Goreville.
