Carbondale Virgil Elmer Wells, 86, died Monday, March 14, 2005 at 12:45 A.M. at his residence. Virgil was born February 19, 1919 to David Elmer & Lillie G. (Young) Wells in Carmi. He married Jewel Maxine Taylor on March 18, 1939 in Henderson, KY and together they have shared the last 66 years. Virgil worked as a farmer, truck driver, in construction and 25 years at Iglehart Foods. He was a member of the Third Baptist Church in Marion for several years where he served as a deacon. Virgil is survived by: His wife Maxine of Carbondale Three children and their spouses: Ron & Joyce Wells of Makanda Wilson Bud & Sue Wells of New Harmony, IN Donna & Kenneth Phelps of Evansville, IN Four Grandchildren: Kelly Ray Gansman Kendra Ray Parsons Lela Dawn Wells Brock Wilson Wells Nine Great Grandchildren Brothers: Hayward Wells of Fairfield, IL Harold & Lois Wells of Tucson, AZ Thomas & Dorothy Wells of Evansville, IN Carrol Dean & Debbie Wells of Jacksonville, FL Sisters: Dorothy & Harold McGeehee of Evansville, IN Grace & John Morris of Eldorado Hazel & Jim Hayden of Newbergh, IL Mildred & Jim Cornwell of Henderson, KY Ruth & Lewis Brown of Eldorado Sister-in-law Juanita Wells of Bunker Hill Preceded by: Parents, infant sister and Brothers Clyde Wells and Howard Wells Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Third Baptist Church in Marion with Dr. Jerry Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Enfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church. For those who prefer, memorials may be given to VNA Hospice. Envelopes will be available at Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home and at the church.
