Violet Ruth Spiller, lovingly known for her warm heart, steadfast faith, and deep devotion to her family, passed away peacefully just shy of her 95th birthday.
Born on July 26, 1931, in Marion, Illinois, she was the cherished daughter of Thurmon White and Clara (Campbell) White.
On March 2, 1951, Violet married the love of her life, Jack Spiller. Together they built a beautiful life and shared many happy years until Jack’s passing in 1995. Their home was one filled with love and laughter.
Violet was first and foremost a homemaker who took tremendous pride in caring for those she loved. She also worked as a bank teller and was a familiar, friendly face serving the community at the local Dairy Queen.
A woman of strong Christian faith, Violet was a devoted member of Lake of Egypt Christian Church, where she faithfully played the piano for several years. She was also a proud member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, supporting her husband’s military service and honoring those who served our country.
Some of Violet’s greatest joys were found in the simple moments of life. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family, enjoyed watching television game shows, loved sewing, and was famous for making the best cheeseburgers—ones her family insists no one could ever duplicate. Her homemade green spaghetti and special salad dressing became family favorites, and there was rarely a day she didn’t enjoy a Coke poured over ice.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jan (Wayne Fosse) Lenon; her grandchildren, Brodie (Samantha) Lenon, Casey Lenon, Doug Hall, Maggie (Tim) Becker, and Luke (Jess) Venker; her great-grandchildren, Dawson Hall, Michael Becker, Sammy Becker, and Sylvia Rose Lenon and baby girl Venker on the way; along with several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Jack Spiller; her daughter, Jackie Venker; her son-in-law, George Lenon; her granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Hall; her brothers, George (Retha) White, Leslie (Dorothy) White, and Howard (Hazel) White; and her sisters, Lucille (Bob) Fissell and Edith (Jack) Pritchett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lake of Egypt Christian Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice of Southern Illinois for the compassion, comfort, and loving care they provided to Violet.
