Tennie Girtman, age 100, passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Deaconess of Illinois.
Tennie was born on August 19, 1926, in Goreville, Illinois, the daughter of William Orb Girtman and Eliza Jane (Perry) Girtman. Having celebrated her 100th birthday just weeks before her passing, Tennie was blessed with a century of life, faith, family, and memories.
Tennie worked at the Illinois Youth Center in Harrisburg, where she retired as a supervisor after many years of service.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, Tennie was of the Pentecostal faith and a lifetime member of Gospel Assembly in Eldorado. She loved the Lord and enjoyed spending time reading her Bible. Her faith was an important part of who she was and how she lived her life.
Tennie also found great joy in tending to her flower garden. She was known for baking cakes and, each Christmas, sharing them with family and friends, a tradition that reflected her generous and caring spirit.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews; her great-niece, Vickie Barton; along with many other relatives and friends.
Tennie was preceded in death by her parents, William and Eliza Girtman; and all of her siblings, Charles Girtman, John Girtman, Rosa Lee Girtman, and Elza Girtman.
