Shirley J Fox

Shirley J. Fox, 90, of Marion, died at 11:25 a.m., June 7, 2025, in Sparta, Illinois. Shirley was born in rural Williamson County, Illinois, July 25, 1934, to Verbal and Myrtle (Phillips) Barnett.

She was a longtime member of the American Association of Medical Assistants. She worked for C.S. Schlageter MD, Sparta, Illinois for 20 years and H.O. Lyle MD, Marion, Illinois for 13 years. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Sparta, Illinois, and a longtime St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.

Shirley is survived by her children: Kathy (Kenny) McConachie of Cutler, Illinois; Rhonda (Larry) Wilson of Steeleville, Illinois; and Michael (Felicia) Fox of Sarasota, Florida; five grandchildren: Angela Meyer, Heather Duncan, Erica Freeman, Talitha Park, and Michael McConachie; Thirteen great-grandchildren; brother Robert (Becky) Barnett of Sun City Center, Florida; sisters Sue (Jerry) Mattox of Lovonia, Georgia, and Mildred Barwick of Marion, Illinois; several nieces and nephews and good friends.

Besides her parents, Shirley was also preceded in death by brother Verbal (Betty) Barnett, and brothers-in-law Howard Mattox and Andy Barwick.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley Ross. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Blue Funeral Home, located at 1704 N. Court St., Marion, Illinois. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mark Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Freedom Cemetery in Marion, Illinois.
