Shelby Caroline (Holland) Sloat-Groover

Shelby Caroline (Holland) Sloat-Groover, age 83, of Herrin, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023 at her home in Herrin, Illinois.

Shelby was born June 19, 1939 in Hurst, Illinois, a daughter of James and Edith Blanche (Denosky) Holland.

She is survived by three children, Melodie Hartman, Robert A. Sloat Jr., and Catherine Hartman; eleven grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Cloice Troy "Vin" Groover; her parents, Edith Blanche (Denosky) and James Elvis Holland; one sister, Mattie Catherine Holland; and her aunt, Lily Mae (Holland) Cook.

Graveside service will be held Thursday, May 11, 2023, 2:00 PM at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville with Rev. Jeannie Ellis officiating. Family and friends are asked to gather directly at the cemetery. Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin is assisting the family with final arrangements.
