Ron P. Hudson, 78, passed away on June 27, 2026, in Carbondale, Illinois.
Ron was born on March 16, 1948, in Watseka, Illinois, to Jim and Pearl Hudson. He married the love of his life, Rhonda Schweizer, and together they shared many cherished years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rhonda Hudson; his son, Shawn (Charlene) Hudson; his grandchildren, Nicholas and Shaelen, who is currently attending medical school at Tulane University; and his great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Norah. He is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Richard); his brother, Thomas; his niece, Michelle (Todd); his nephew, Hayden; and several other beloved nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Pearl Hudson, and his brother, Jerry Hudson.
For 35 years, Ron dedicated his career to the Environmental Protection Agency. During his distinguished service, he worked throughout the Chicago area before later serving Southern Illinois, where he became well known and respected for his commitment to protecting the environment and the communities he served.
A man devoted to both his profession and his community, Ron was an active member of the Carbondale Elks Lodge, where he proudly served as Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Athletics played an important role throughout Ron's life. He was a talented basketball player at Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School before continuing his athletic and academic pursuits at both the University of Wyoming and Indiana State University.
Ron found his greatest enjoyment outdoors. He loved hunting near his Southern Illinois home and throughout the region, spending time on the waters of Lake Kincaid, and boating around Marco Island, Florida. He treasured the changing seasons, enjoying summers in Southern Illinois and escaping to his home on Marco Island during the winter. Whether on the water, in the woods, or simply observing nature, Ron found peace in the outdoors and created countless memories with those he loved.
In accordance with his wishes, Ron was cremated.
