Rickie Joe Newton passed away on October 7, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Marion. He was born on December 7, 1948, the son of Joe and Bea (Whitney) Newton.
Rickie was a graduate of Goreville High School. He later joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country, including one year in Vietnam.
On July 20, 1972, he married Loudin McGuire, who preceded him in death.
Rickie worked for 30 years at Norge as a maintenance man, retiring in 2007. Following his retirement, he worked for Shew Brothers as a welder for 10 years.
Rickie enjoyed the outdoors, especially deer hunting, coon hunting, and fishing on the river. One of his memorable adventures was a trip to Alaska for elk hunting. He attended the Pentecostal Church in Goreville.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews and his good friends, Tom and Phyllis Tripp.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Loudin; his sister, Shannon Byrd; his brother, David “Taco” Newton; his sister-in-law, Debbie Newton; and his brother, Terry Godbey.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Busby Chapel Cemetery in Goreville, with Pastor Keith Owens officiating. Full military honors will be accorded in recognition of Rickie’s service to his country. Those planning to attend are invited to arrive at the cemetery shortly before 1:00 p.m.
