Minnie Marilyn Elizabeth Trent Yucus West, age 81, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Marilyn was born on December 1, 1944, the fourteenth child of Ogal Ray and Ellan Mae Thompson Trent. At the age of two, she was lovingly adopted by A.J. and Mary Myers Yucus on April 8, 1947.
Marilyn was blessed with a large family and many beloved siblings including Alice, Ogal, Robert, Raymond, Thelma, Earl, Helen, Violet, Mildred, Dorothy, George, Jane, and Ruthie.
On February 28, 1963, she married Edward Dean West. Together they built a life centered around faith and family. Their union was blessed with two sons, Edward Raymond West, born March 7, 1964, and David Michael West, born June 20, 1965. She was especially proud of her grandson, John Anthony West, born February 28, 1991.
Marilyn was a member of East Liberty Christian Church and enjoyed worshipping with fellow Christians of many denominations. Gospel music filled her heart with joy, and her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in Carterville and a past member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 147. Marilyn especially enjoyed spending time volunteering with veterans at the VA hospital, helping brighten their days and pass the time during their stays.
Alongside her husband, Marilyn was the co-owner and operator of West Trash Service in Marion, Illinois. She also cherished the friendships she made while spending time at the Court Street McDonald’s in Marion, where she and her friends could often be found sharing coffee, conversation, and solving the world’s problems.
Marilyn would not want those who loved her to weep for her passing. Instead, she would encourage everyone to celebrate her homecoming. In her own spirit, she might say, “Enjoy an ice cream cone or another cup of coffee until we see each other again.”
