Leslie W. Smith

Marion- Leslie W. Smith, 81, of Marion, passed away at his home with his family by his side at 3:05 AM, Christmas Morning. Leslie was born on October 30, 1923 in West Frankfort to George E & Bessie (Nolen) Smith. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served as B-17 Pilot during WWII. He retired from Freeman #4 Coal Mine where he worked as an electrician for many years. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. SURVIVORS: Mother- Bessie Smith- Marion Nephew- Creighton B. Smith- Marion Great Nephew- Creighton C. Smith- Colorado Springs, CO He was preceded in death by his father, one daughter in infancy, and one brother; Creighton A. Smith. Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 31, 2004 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home in Herrin. Rev. Mike Ebert officiated and military rites were performed in the chapel by the Herrin VFW & American Legion Posts. Burial followed at Sanders Cemetery in rural Marion.
