Larry Wayne Sharp

Larry Wayne Sharp, 72, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at Deaconess Hospital in Marion, Illinois.

Larry was born on December 16, 1953, in Brawley, California, the son of James Sharp and Dorothy (Hunthrop) Sharp. He was a graduate of Goreville High School.

On December 22, 1979, Larry married Norma Jean Helms, who survives. Larry worked as a security guard at the riverboat casino in Metropolis.

Larry enjoyed sports and especially loved watching baseball. Although he enjoyed watching the St. Louis Cardinals, his favorite team was the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed football and was a supporter of the Southern Illinois Miners baseball team.

Some of Larry’s favorite times were spent traveling with Norma. They enjoyed grabbing their morning coffee and heading out for the day on long country drives, where Larry loved taking in the hills, trees, and animals along the way.

Larry is survived by his wife, Norma Sharp; daughters, Teresa Shadden and Louise Peavler (Jimmie Doiel); sons, Michael Sharp and Ralph Ellis; three sisters, Sherry, June, and Paula; brother, Archie; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and his beloved cat, Stella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Sharp, and his sister, Linda.

In accordance with Larry’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no public services will be held.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross.
