Joy Ruth (Bramlet) Duncan, 80, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at Deaconess of Illinois Medical Center. She was born on July 9, 1946, in Williamson County, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Milton Bramlet and Violet Mamie (Connett) Bramlet.
Joy was a dedicated and hardworking woman throughout her life. She began her working career at the age of 15 at Johnson’s Bookkeeping in Marion. She then spent 16 years with Parks Implement Company before a brief time at Shamrock Mine Supply. She concluded her career as a Medical Administrative Assistant at the VA Medical Center, where she faithfully served for 26 years before retiring.
In her younger years, Joy cherished spending time outdoors with her family, often taking day trips to Fern Clyffe State Park and Giant City State Park. As the years passed, she found happiness in quieter hobbies, including crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, cross-stitching, and sewing. She was a faithful member of Crab Orchard United Methodist Church.
She married Charles Ray Hanley and they had one son Chris Hanley. Later in life she met the love of her life Dewey Wayne Duncan and they married on February 12, 1994. Together they shared many wonderful years.
She is survived by her son, Chris (Renà) Hanley; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Sue Bramlet and Bonnie Jent of Marion; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Bramlet; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Charles Ray Hanley, and Dewey Wayne Duncan; and her brothers, Donald Bramlet and Gordon Bramlet.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Paul Jacob officiating. Inurnment will follow in Egyptian Memorial Gardens in Energy. Please visit www.binkleyross.com to leave condolences online for the family.
