John C. Hulse passed away peacefully on July 23, 2025, at the Marion VA Medical Center in Marion, Illinois. Born on March 8, 1953, in Waterview, Kentucky.
John's journey through life was marked by dedication, service, and the warmth of a family man. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He proudly served his country for four years in the Air Force followed by twelve years in the Army, embodying the values of loyalty and courage. After his distinguished military career, John continued to serve his community as a Correctional Officer at the Marion Federal Penitentiary, from which he eventually retired. Beyond his professional life, John was a family man at heart.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Mildred Ann Hulse, with whom he shared 43 years of companionship. His legacy continues through his sons, John Spencer Goolsby and Adam Wayne Goolsby, as well as his stepdaughters, Angela Michelle Combs and Dana Adelle Combs. His grandson, Jacob Michael Perez, was a source of immense pride and joy. He also leaves behind two brothers, Joseph Armstead Hulse, Jr. and James Howard Hulse, and one sister, Barbara Ann Wolford.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Armstead Hulse and Minnie Hulse, as well as one sister, Martha Hulse.
He was an avid pool player, who was always ready for a friendly game at the Marion Senior Citizens. He was a loyal fan of Westerns, enjoying the tales of heroism and the old American frontier. John also enjoyed cheering on the University of Kentucky Wildcats.
There will be a one-hour visitation starting at 10am Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Deaton Funeral Home in Jackson, Kentucky with presentation of military rites and burial to follow.
