James "Jim" Dwayne Burgess

James Dwayne "Jim" Burgess, 83, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 3:45 p.m.

Jim was born on December 9, 1941, in Marion, the son of James Elmer Burgess and Wilma M. Parmley. On April 24, 1971, he married the love of his life, Cynthia Burgess, in Forest Park, Illinois. Together, they shared over 43 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished time spent with his family and especially enjoyed traveling and fishing. His warm personality, kind heart, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his two sons, Brian (Cassie) Burgess and Kevin Burgess, both of Marion; and two beloved grandchildren, Bryson and Allison Burgess, also of Marion. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Burgess, and his parents, James and Wilma Burgess.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Blue Funeral Home, under the direction of Binkley Ross. A memorial service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with service starting at 3:00 p.m., at Grange Hall Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin McNeely officiating. Burial will follow, the next day, at Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Williamson County Fire Protection District – Chief Jeremy Norris Scholarship Fund, a cause that was meaningful to Jim and his family.
