Iretta J. Stephens

July 27, 1937 — June 8, 2026

Marion, Illinois

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Iretta J. Stephens of Marion, IL. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who departed this world on June 8, 2026, at the age of 88. Born in Spillertown, IL on July 27, 1937, Iretta was a beacon of love and warmth to all who knew her.

Iretta was the cherished daughter of the late Jewell M. and Mabel L. (Klope) Ferguson.

She was preceded in eternal rest by her parents, as well as her brothers, Gordon Ferguson and Roger Ferguson.

On November 27, 1959, Iretta married the love of her life, Howard A. Stephens. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and an unbreakable bond that stood the test of time. Howard was her steadfast companion for over six decades.

Iretta's legacy is lovingly carried forward by her children: Howard A. (Nicole) Stephens of Marion, IL; Anthony B. Stephens of West Frankfort, IL; and Vanessa R. Stephens of Marion, IL. She took immense pride in her family, including her ten grandchildren: Austin K. (Nicci) Stephens, Mason J. Stephens, Alex C. (Valerie) Stephens, Madelyn E. Stephens, Quentin P. Stephens, Hanna R. Humphrey, Toni Jo (Hunter) Winchester, and Graci L. Holan; and her three great-grandchildren: Addison K. Stephens, Parker C. Stephens, and Carter R. Humphrey. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her love and guidance will forever be their guiding light.

Iretta is also survived by her sister, Nathalie Linder; her brother, Darryl (Debbie) Ferguson; and many nieces and nephews.

A devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Marion, Iretta found joy and solace in her faith. She was an active participant in the church community and a cherished member of the JOY Singers choir, where her melodious voice and spirit of fellowship touched the hearts of many.

In honoring her memory, we remember Iretta as a woman of grace, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is one of love, strength, and a life well-lived. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Iretta, in the arms of the angels.
