Gary Don Reichert, age 81, of Johnston City, Illinois, passed away on March 20, 2026.
Gary was born on October 16, 1944, in Chicago, Illinois, to John and Lolene (Peeler) Reichert.
A proud veteran, Gary served as a Major in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, where he flew AH‑1 Cobra attack helicopters in service to his country. After he retired from the military, he continued his passion for aviation by flying private charter aircraft. He later served as a fixed‑wing pilot for the Illinois Department of Transportation, transporting state officials and supporting aviation operations throughout the state.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and enjoyment in nature. He was active at the shooting range, loved target shooting, and was a lifelong member of the NRA.
He is survived by his son, John Reichert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lolene.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley‑Ross. A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a service to follow at 3:00 p.m., at Blue Funeral Home, 1704 N. Court Street, Marion, Illinois, with Pastor John Holst officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local animal rescue of the donor’s choice.
