Fred Dale Miller

Fred Dale Miller, age 72, of Marion, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2026, at his home.

Fred was born on September 19, 1954, in Modesto, California, the son of John F. Miller and Zelma Maxine (Malcolm) Miller. He was a 1973 graduate of Templeton High School.

Fred had an interesting work history that began when he landed a maintenance job while hitchhiking in California. He started out mowing grass for a rental property company and, just one week later, was promoted to head of maintenance. He also spent time working as a commercial fisherman aboard a 42-foot salmon fishing boat in California. Fred spent 18 years mowing lawns before moving to Marion in 1990.

Even after retirement, Fred enjoyed keeping busy. He could often be found blowing leaves off sidewalks for others, never expecting or accepting payment for his kindness.

Fred is survived by his sons, Brase William Miller and William Eugene McPherson Miller; and his special friends, Ernestine Burgess and Bill Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Miller.

Arrangements were entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross. In accordance with Fred’s wishes, cremation will take place, and no public services will be held.
