Herrin- Enrico Malatestia, 91, of Herrin, passed away at 1:46 PM, Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. Enrico was born on February 8, 1918 in Chittyville to James & Teresa (Baraggio) Malatestia. He married Clara Reams on September 1, 1936 at the First Presbyterian Church in Herrin. She preceded him in death on August 5, 1967. Enrico was a US Army Veteran and served his country honorably during WWII while stationed in Italy, France and Germany. Once discharged he returned home and worked many years as a forklift operator at Allen Industries in Herrin until his retirement in 1980. He was a protestant and enjoyed fishing at Crab Orchard and Cedar Lake. Survivors include- Son- Robert Malatestia of Herrin Daughter- Lula Mann & husband Don of Herrin Daughter- Carolyn Murphy & husband Kenneth of Whiteash Daughter- Cathy Lammers of Tampa Bay, FL Grandchildren: Danny Sanders & wife Sandy of Marion Marc Mann & wife Cindy of Cypress, TX Shari Sloan of Herrin Angie Murphy of Whiteash Tony Lammers of Marion Daniel Sloan of Whiteash Six Great Grandchildren Cousin- Madaline Hindman of Herrin She was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sons- Rico LeRoy Malatestia and Paul Thomas Malatestia. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home. Rev. Cecil Sullivan will officiate. Burial will follow at Herrin City Cemetery. Military rites will be performed at graveside by the Herrin American Legion & VFW Posts. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until time of service, Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimers Association and will be accepted at Johnson-Hughes Funeral Home, 201 S. 13th St, Herrin, IL 62948.
