Donald C. Rakow

Donald Conrad “Don” Rakow Jr., 82, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at his home at Sunshine Gardens.

Don was born on May 20, 1944, in Elgin, Illinois, the son of Donald C. Rakow Sr. and June (Mains) Rakow. He was united in marriage to Sandra “Sandy” Rakow on April 25, 1964, and together they shared 58 wonderful years of marriage.

Don worked as an HVAC technician for Sears. He enjoyed attending Southern Illinois University baseball and football games, cheering on the local minor league baseball teams, and watching the Thrillbillies with his son, Scott. He loved grilling and was especially known for making delicious bratwurst. Don also had a passion for antique and classic automobiles, spending many years buying, selling, rebuilding, and restoring cars. He was a proud member of the Egyptian Antique Auto Club.

He is survived by his son, Scott Rakow (Jerilyn); his sister, Joann Bolton (Mack); and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandy; his parents; two sisters, Judy Benjamin and Joy (Sperry) Rakow; and his brother, Dan Rakow.

In accordance with his wishes, Dan will be cremated and laid to rest beside his wife at Rosehill Cemetery.
