David Lee Lawrence, age 77, of Marion, Illinois, entered into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 12, 2025, at home with his family. He was born April 11, 1948, in Tunnel Hill, Illinois, the son of Waldo and Pauline Lawrence. David grew up with his brother, Paul Lawrence, who preceded him in death.
On December 19, 1970, he married the love of his life, Sharilyn Kay, and together they built a strong and loving family. He is survived by his two sons, David and Bryan Lawrence; daughters-in-law Stephanie and Alexandria; and his cherished grandchildren, Jaxon and Allie Lawrence, and Miriam.
David deeply loved all of his family, including his many aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. David worked for nearly 40 years as a dedicated coal miner, known for his reliability, strength, and unwavering work ethic. He also served his country honorably as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
A quiet and soft-spoken man, David had a sharp wit and a gentle presence. He enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering on projects, and he was always willing to lend a hand or help anyone in need. Later in life, he found joy in fishing and hunting, spending peaceful time outdoors doing what he loved. David — lovingly known as "Big Dave" — was loving, steady, and strong; a true man among men. He lived a life devoted to his family and his commitment to Christ, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
