Darrel “Scott” Dugan, 60, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Scott was born on December 7, 1964, in Vandalia, the son of Carrol Dugan and Sue Carol (Lape) Dugan. He worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, where his dedication and friendly spirit touched many lives throughout his community.
Scott was a man of many talents and interests. He was an artist at heart, enjoying woodworking, building intricate models of warplanes and ships, and collecting knowledge on a wide range of historical subjects—much of which his family lovingly referred to as his “useless knowledge.” He had a deep love for animals and was often called upon to dog-sit because of his trustworthy and gentle nature. Scott also treasured antique shopping adventures with his fiancée, Michelle, and cherished time spent with his grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life.
He is survived by his children: Brittney Hayes, Nathan Dugan, and NiCole Dial; grandchildren: Brielle, Hudson, Jameson, Peyten, Kinadee, Kloee, Job, Juliette, and Rhanira; fiancée, Michelle Baxter; brother, Gail (Sandy) Dugan; sisters: Tammy (John) Carlson and Kristy (Kenny) Arnold; his godson, Brandon Carlson; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his “bonus children,” Joseph (Jordan) Baxter and Dylan (Mercedes) Baxter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Binkley-Ross Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Vandalia. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., with interment at Fairlawn Cemetery in Vandalia.
