Curtis Vernon Craig

Dec 11, 1935 — Sep 12, 2026

Goreville

Curtis Vernon Craig, 90, was born December 11, 1935, in Goreville, Illinois, to Herschel and Wynita Craig.

Curtis was a devoted Christian and a retired minister who dedicated much of his life to serving the Lord and others. He was a longtime member of Lick Creek Pentecostal Church, where his faith was an important part of his life and ministry.

Curtis proudly served in the United States Navy, including service aboard the USS Forrestal and USS Black during the Korean conflict. Following his military service, he worked for Diagraph Bradley, from which he later retired.

Curtis married Mary Lou Schierbaum on September 4, 1970. They shared 48 years of marriage before Mary Lou preceded him in death on April 15, 2019.

Curtis was a kind man with a great sense of humor who loved people and treasured his friendships. He loved the town of Goreville and spent the majority of his life there. He especially enjoyed meeting his friends for coffee in the mornings at Napa. In his younger years, he loved playing golf with his neighbors and friends.

Curtis cherished his time with his grandchildren. They have many wonderful memories of playing board games with their grandfather and riding with him on his motorcycle. These moments, along with his humor and kindness, will be treasured by his family for years to come.

Curtis is survived by his two daughters, Teresa Roberg (Roger) of Beaufort, South Carolina, and Tammy Sheehan (Jim) of Benton, Illinois; four grandchildren, Isaac Roberg (Jenny), Lindsay Roberg (Jim), Amanda Yates (Brandon), and Tysen Yates (Jen); and nine great-grandchildren, Liam, Lucas, Mila, Elijah, Colten, Greyson, Bennett, Maddox, and Madison.

In addition to his wife, Mary Lou, and grandson, Eric Roberg, Curtis was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Craig.
