Bruce Lavon Sellars

Bruce Lavon Sellars, age 73, of Marion, Illinois, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, surrounded by those he loved most.

Bruce was born on September 10, 1952, to Bill and Geneva (Angel) Sellars in Carbondale, IL. On May 6, 1977, he married Mary Ann (Trotter), and together they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising two sons and later welcoming grandchildren who became the light of his life.

Bruce was a passionate collector and a regular at local auctions, always on the lookout for treasures with a story. A devoted sports fan, he cheered faithfully for the St. Louis Cardinals and the SIU Salukis, and found immense joy in watching his grandchildren compete in their own athletic pursuits. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all types of hunting and cherished time spent in nature with his beloved dogs by his side.

Faith was a cornerstone of Bruce’s life. He was a member of the Third Baptist Church of Marion and Davis Prairie Baptist Church of Marion, each of which held a special place in his heart.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his sons, Buddy (Andrea) Sellars and Joey Sellars; his grandchildren, Samuel, Stephen, and Sarah Sellars; his sisters, Brenda (Tom) Carter and Angela (Jim) Price; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Blue Funeral Home under the direction of Binkley-Ross Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Blue Funeral Home, 1704 N Court St., Marion, Illinois. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Paul Wareing officiating. Interment will take place at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, in honor of the compassionate care Bruce received.
