Arley Wayne Lay

Wayne Lay Marion-Wayne Lay, 82, of Marion passed away at 8:15 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Shawnee Christian Nursing Home in Herrin. It was Mr. Lay’s wishes that his body be cremated. A memorial will be held by the family at Valhalla in Belleville at a later date. Blue Funeral Home in Marion is assisting the family with arrangements. Wayne was born on September 22, 1928 in Dent County, MO to Louis & Inez (Conway) Lay. He married Bertha Eastham on August 16, 1969 in Fults, IL; together they shared 41 years. Survivors include his loving wife, Bertha; step-children, Dennis & Barbara Valentin of Highland, Cynthia & Jim Hoef of O’Fallon and Patricia Valentin & Mark Gallagher of Albers; step-grandchildren, Karen Valentin, David & Anna Valentin and Zachary & Amy Freiderich; sisters, Betty Dunlap of Marion and Bonnie Ruf of Suncity, AZ; several nieces & nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and step-granddaughter, Jodi Freiderich. Mr. Lay enjoyed boating, woodworking and fishing. He served his country in the United States Navy. He will be greatly missed.
